Film Watched: LSU 2022, Auburn 2022, Mississippi State 2022
Pro's:
Ultra-composed QB with excellent danger radar
Natural ability to extend plays and locate targets downfield
Mahomes-like processing of full field
Comfortable operating outside of structure, accurate passer on the move
CLUTCH. Too many examples of do or die completions, first downs & touchdowns
Able to manipulate defenses to create passing lanes
Good athlete who can use his legs to punish cautious defenses
Dominated against elite competition. Proven winner
Con's:
Significantly undersized for an NFL QB
Skinny. Legitimate durability concerns at the next level
Will require a team to tailor an offense around his protection
Arm is adequate but not elite – noticeable drop in ‘zip’ on deep balls
The Verdict:
“Bryce Young, from a talent perspective, is undoubtedly the number one quarterback in this draft class. A sheer natural at the position, Young has dazzled at Alabama with his ability to dictate from the pocket but also become an escapologist and create something out of nothing. If he had five extra inches and weighed 25lbs more, he would be a lock to be the number one pick. But whoever drafts him at his current measurables has to accept the risk that his career as their franchise quarterback could be significantly shorter than the alternatives at his position. A player of this ability doesn’t come around very often, and when you add in other intangibles like confidence and leadership, the allure only intensifies. Young is so good, a team is going to disregard everything they thought they knew about baseline numbers and go all in. But will they trade up to do so?”
