Arm strength concerns – short arms far too many passes
Misses the simple stuff; overthrows quick screens or passes to the flat
Reluctant to work off-script; would rather force inadvisable throws than create something else
Timing, accuracy and anticipation of throws over the middle not as developed as outside throws
Generally makes smart decisions with the football – except in the redzone/attacking the endzone
Operated exclusively out of the shotgun and offensive scheme helped slow the game down for him
The Verdict:
“For NFL scouts who look for measurables first and on-field performance thereafter, Chase Garbers might prove to be an intriguing prospect. A big, sturdy quarterback with decent athleticism, Garbers has good football IQ and is an effective communicator. Frustrations with his game primarily arise from his inconsistent arm strength and propensity to hit the hard throws but miss the easy ones - his draft stock would be much higher if he could get the same results working the middle of the field as he does the sidelines. As it stands, he’s a guy who knows what he needs to do but the execution is lacking. Garbers will find the step up to the NFL difficult as the game speeds up and a more demanding playbook is introduced.”
