2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Crum

Film Watched: Texas A&M 2021, Bowling Green 2020, Auburn 2019

Pro's:

  • Three year starter for Kent State, frequently topping the MAC  stats tables
  • Real threat on the ground – racked up 2,000 rushing yards during his time at Dix Stadium
  • Accurate QB from a clean pocket, with healthy completion percentages every season
  • Risk averse; seldom throws the ball into a dangerous window, and limited number of turnovers
  • Content to work outside the framework of a play and can create something out of nothing
  • Innate feel for pressure in the pocket, climbs well and escapes when he needs to
  • Good knowledge of advantageous matchups and attacks single coverage eagerly
  • Quick release, getting the ball to his playmakers early & allowing them to maximise YAC

Con's:

  • Can hit the deep ball, but lack of truly big arm means velocity slows and ball lingers in the air
  • Noticeable dropoff in release speed on downfield throws – needs to put everything into it
  • Inconsistent when setting his feet before release
  • Maddening misses on easy throws to open receivers that leaves big plays on the field
  • Operated an offense with reduced reads, and little evidence of working through full progressions

The Verdict:

“Heading into the 2021 season Dustin Crum was the quarterback that MAC fans will have had the most hope for a pro career, and whilst Kaleb Eleby may have stolen that crown Crum has some weapons at his disposal that give you hope. He brings the right size and smarts to the NFL, and his ability to move the chains with his feet will also not go unnoticed. Having said that, his downfield limitations probably mean most teams won’t consider him anything other than a potential backup, and it’s likely he goes undrafted before finding work as a UDFA. In that role he may well excel, with the accuracy and smart decision making that teams look for to be a placeholder in a pinch, but also some creativity to deliver you an unlikely win or two.”
