Film Watched: LSU 2021, Missouri 2021, Miami (OH) 2021
Pro's:
Burly, brawny lineman who converted from tight end to play right tackle for the Chippewas
Plays with a real disdain for his opponent, and loves to finish plays right through the whistle
Phenomenal core strength to bulldoze defenders off the ball. Dedicated to the weight room
Legs power through contact, never stopping
Uses good leverage to get under the pads and drive upwards
Violent hands that deliver a punch that can rock defensive linemen onto their heels
Active hands that don’t settle for inferior positioning
Impressive feel for the role of an o-lineman considering just two years of experience
Con's:
Lack of length makes a move inside likely at the next level
Some hip stiffness that makes adjusting to counters a little difficult
Clunky kick slide can see some mirror issues as he transfers weight
Intermittent instances of reaching early for contact and can be coerced off-balance
Vulnerable to speed rushers at the top of the arc when lined up outside
The Verdict:
“Physical, nasty, and unapologetic about it; it’s amazing to me that Luke Goedeke hasn’t been an offensive lineman all his life. Not only does he have the mindset and size for it, but his dedication to technique and nuance is underappreciated considering the little time he’s had playing the position. Despite lining up at right tackle for The Chips the past two seasons, Goedeke will find a much more natural home on the interior in the NFL, where his power can be accentuated as he plays in confined quarters. To be quite honest, outside of an adjustment period I see little wrong with the skillset for the role; if Goedeke somehow falls to day three I think a team is getting an absolute steal.”
