2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Athletics, Football, media guides, portrait by Priscilla Grover

Film Watched: Oklahoma State 2021, Hawaii 2020, BYU 2020

Pro's:

  • Competitive, gritty wide receiver who consistently flashed big plays on the blue Boise turf
  • Lines up on every snap ready to browbeat the man in front of him into submission
  • Top-level agility; explosive off the snap, quick and shifty on short to intermediate routes
  • Devastating ability to sink hips and cut to get separation
  • Fearless. Brave across the middle versus imminent contact, and embraces the physical fight
  • Highly versatile: inside/outside, backfield duties as a ball carrier/wildcat, and special teams value
  • Ability to reel in absurd catches soul destroying for a defender
  • Knows the value of speed adjustments, and can make DB’s look silly on double moves & hitches
  • Insatiable after the catch, first with speed into the open field before strength at the point of contact

Con's:

  • Primary concern is arm length, although you wouldn’t notice it watching the tape
  • Length limitations will show up more on the outside at the next level – likely less ‘steal’ plays
  • Not a burner. Willing attacker of the deep field, but won’t take the top off a defense
  • Lightweight lower half could lead to power mismatches in the NFL versus press coverage
  • Surprising disinterest in blocking duties considering his competitive nature

The Verdict:

“Despite Boise State not getting a lot of air time, Khalil Shakir would usually make a weekly appearance on my Saturday college football experience with a variety of outrageous big play highlights for the Broncos. A true ‘swiss army knife’ at the college level, Shakir’s athleticism and competitive nature meant that defenses had to account for him on every single snap. The arm length is a concern, and likely removes outside duties for him at the next level, limiting his draft stock somewhat. But what a team loses in that regard, they can gain with a bespoke playbook, allowing Shakir to work his magic in the slot or backfield as well as returner on special teams. A high character guy and locker room asset, Shakir is one of my favourite evals in this draft class, a future WR3, and brings every desirable trait as a contributor to an NFL offense.”
