2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Tre Turner

Film Watched: North Carolina 2021, Miami 2021, North Carolina 2020

Pro's:

  • Reception machine that will catch anything within his postcode
  • Unmatched hands in this draft class. Balls just feather into his mits regardless of location
  • Basketball background shows up with his ability to high point the football with good timing
  • Has some highlight reel catches on his resume
  • Tracks the football effortlessly, showing good awareness to adjust the route for errant passes
  • Smooth rather than explosive, but has enough deep speed to be respected vertically
  • Tape demonstrates good agility to create separation with sharp breaks
  • Dangerous with the ball in his hand and versatile – 456 career yards rushing at Virginia Tech

Con's:

  • Modest production as a receiver in college – never more than 675 yards or 4 TD’s in any one season
  • Linear, skinny frame that struggles to compete under duress at the catch point
  • Press coverage is challenging for him – limited burst & lack of power to fight off hands
  • Ball security a concern; too many fumbles as a rusher/after the catch
  • A beneficiary of manufactured touches in Blacksburg
  • Ran a limited route tree as an outside receiver at college

The Verdict:

“Calling Tre Turner a gadget player might be a little unfair to the skillset he brings to the NFL; he may not possess elite measurables or supreme athleticism, but he knows how to get open, create space, and make the most of the opportunity with the ball in his hand. Versatility is the key to his game, with the ability to play inside/outside as well as in the backfield. Turner’s best attribute are his hands - he simply catches everything thrown his way, and it’s what might save him as an option outside the numbers where he may otherwise find life hard at the next level. His poor combine testing will worry teams who hoped to put a bit more muscle mass on him, and there is an air of a glass ceiling to how much you can expect from him. But as a movable weapon he will add value to someone’s depth chart as a unique offensive contributor.”
