- A little stiff, and lateral mobility not at the desired level to be a pure edge rusher
- Defeated by length; struggles to keep a tight turn round the arc
- Some balance issues at full tilt – loses leverage on occasion
- Undersized for an interior lineman, lack of explosion for an outside rusher
The Verdict:
“I’m really intrigued to see the usage of Zachary Carter by an NFL defense. A movable chess piece along the Gators’ defensive front, Carter has shown himself capable of operating at any alignment except nose tackle, and whilst that versatility won’t be ignored at the next level, scouts and coaches will have different perceptions as to his main role. Carter is a guy who has thrived physically in a phone booth despite often giving away size to an opponent, and it’s because of this that I believe he is best served as a 3-4 base end in a 5-tech with pass-rushing potential from the interior in the subpackage. For that to happen, Carter will need to add more weight - but I wouldn’t think that should be an issue. Carter’s chameleonic skillset should boost his draft stock, and a late day two pick would make a lot of sense.”
