- Aware of potential double moves or counters an opponent might use against him
- Has the stop and start ability to mirror and neutralise any inside threat

- Technique a work in progress. Hand placement inconsistent, footwork hit and miss
- Little attention to pad level makes him concede leverage all too often
- Failure to keep pads low affects play strength – noted shortcoming in drive through contact
- Lower body strength to maul defenders off the ball doesn’t match aggression he plays with
- Power through upper body underwhelming – doesn’t deliver brutal first punch
The Verdict:
"As an FCS prospect, Braxton Jones has caught scout’s attentions with the pleasing blend of measurables and traits he brings. A big man who can move with imperious length, Jones’ calling card is his ability to suffocate quick edge rushers who have designs on beating him to the corner - more often than not they fail to do so. As a pass protector there’s a lot to like, but plenty to work on as a run defender; the noted lack of power in his game is the biggest concern, and any interested teams would be well advised to make him a bed up in the weight room. Technique issues are less concerning as Jones possesses the raw tools to suggest he can be coached through them, and as a day three prospect offers high ceiling value to a team looking for a swing tackle with the potential to become a starting NFL OT in the future.”
