- Has to wind it up to hit the deep field – throwing motion suffers as a result
- Accuracy fades as distance of throw increases; balls die on him
- Limited athleticism – struggles to escape pressure, won’t be a threat with his legs
The Verdict:
"Jake Haener is a very hard quarterback to dislike. After failing to supplant Jacob Eason at Washington, Haener fled to Fresno and immediately began making amends for his slow start to his college career. The biggest takeaway is how well-tuned Haener is mentally - he trusts his ability to diagnose defenses and knows how to beat them. For the most part he has no issues with execution either, but his lack of size and physical ability will limit his ceiling in the draft. It likely will temper hope of making a significant impact on an NFL field too, with Haener just not equipped to challenge the deep field like he can in the short and intermediate game. I can imagine him as a valued backup QB, but anyone with plans of starting Haener better come equipped with a quick-passing, rhythm-orientated playbook to boot.”
