2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

McCollum_Zyon

Film Watched: South Dakota State 2021, Jacksonville State 2021, Senior Bowl

Pro's:

  • Fits the size and length criteria teams look for in their cornerbacks
  • PLAYMAKER. 13 interceptions and 54 passes defended during his time at Sam Houston State
  • Has the length to frustrate receivers off the line of scrimmage
  • Good football IQ, diagnosing the developing picture in front of him and getting to the ball quickly
  • Excellent timing and angles to the catch point allow him to make plays on the football
  • A pest at the catch point, frequently jarring the ball loose when the receiver gets his mitts on it
  • Has good straight line speed, and can wipe out an offense’s deep sideline threat
  • Smooth in his transitions, and plays well with his back to the football

Con's:

  • Erratic tackler, borne from poor balance upon contact and arms that hit too high and fall off
  • Little evidence of him using his length to corral tackles outside of his frame
  • Doesn’t play with aggression or physicality. Jams have a lack of pop, and tackles don’t leave a mark
  • Receivers will gain separation from him as the route develops, but he closes well to the ball
  • Played at a lower level of competition with the Bearkats

The Verdict:

“Who the hell measures 6’2”, 200lbs, and runs a 4.33 second forty? Zyon McCollum fired his way up NFL Draft boards with a phenomenal combine performance that saw him hit the 93rd percentile or higher in four different categories. The Sam Houston State standout was already revered for his playmaking prowess; a true nose for the football and not just content with swatting it away, McCollum had plenty of game changing moments on his college tape. McCollum will need to find a little more of an edge if he is to survive in the NFL, but he’s got the size, length and click and close speed to be an effective outside receiver at the next level. After competing with the best at the Senior Bowl I’m not so sure he requires a lengthy transition period - McCollum could be a starter by the end of year one.”
