Film Watched: Ole Miss 2021, LSU 2021, Texas A&M 2021

Pro's:

  • Boxer’s frame. Ripped from top to toe, with ideal height and length
  • Ultra-competitive in every aspect of the position
  • Loves to bully receivers at the line of scrimmage, knocking them offline and removing them as an option
  • Has the size to be used as a designated corner to match up with the opponents biggest receiver
  • Bosses the redline and throttles the passing lane for the QB, edging his receiver to the sideline
  • Makes himself a nuisance at the catch point, his long limbs causing a disturbance
  • A brute as a tackler, putting everything he’s got into the hit
  • Enjoys breaking off blocks and joining in with run support

Con's:

  • Athletically limited. Has to win press matchups early or he’ll give separation downfield
  • Too easily stacked on vertical routes by receivers who are able to avoid his paws at the LOS
  • Stiff. Off-man coverage versus short-intermediate routes with sharp breaks are a challenge
  • Change of direction sluggish. Not a candidate for slot duty
  • Reckless. Dives in and misses tackles, is grabby downfield, and plays the man, not the ball at the catch point

The Verdict:

“Josh Jobe has been a three-year starter for Alabama, who used his physicality to subdue some of the best receivers in the SEC at the line of scrimmage. Jobe’s game revolves around winning with strength, looking to put his foot on the throat of an opponent early in the rep and not letting them recover. The problem for Jobe is when that tactic doesn’t work; a modest athletic profile makes him too cumbersome to hold a zone, and a liability to be beaten deep in man. Jobe does bring a standout special teams resume with him to the NFL, where he loves to get downfield and hit something coming towards him. That, in a microcosm, is how best to use him, and coaches may consider moving him to strong safety where he can come down into the box. Jobe’s offering is limited, but his pedigree might see him get drafted higher than he necessarily should. I’m not sure his professional career will last much longer than his rookie deal.”
