2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Ronnie Rivers

Film Watched: Oregon 2021, Colorado State 2020, Minnesota 2019

Pro's:

  • Quick, agile running back able to make defenders miss in tight quarters
  • Short, but fairly well-built frame for his size. Difficult to find in the backfield
  • Incredible short-area agility; will squeeze through holes and juke defenders out of their cleats
  • Little to no loss of speed when changing direction
  • Quick feet with rapid short steps – ability to go where you least expect
  • Consistently productive at the college level for five straight seasons. Proven playmaker
  • True receiving running back – productive as a pass catcher at Fresno & can line up as a receiver
  • Surprisingly good pass blocker

Con's:

  • Small, whatever way you cut it.
  • Size limits playing power, despite commitment into contact
  • Good burst and quick in confined areas, but doesn’t have elite top speed in the open field
  • Too many instances of negative yardage on tape
  • Over-reliant on escapability – needs to know when to take what he can get
  • Had a big workload at college, with 830 touches already on his resume

The Verdict:

“In a running back class full of power runners, it’s refreshing to find a day three prospect that offers something a little different. Ronnie Rivers is your classic jitterbug running back who is difficult to control and always seems to find a way out of trouble. You won’t confuse him for Christian McCaffrey, but his ability to find space when none exists has allowed him to be a valued contributor in the Bulldogs offense the last four years. Rivers’ transition to the NFL will likely be difficult as he encounters a step up in strength and physicality, something his stature will struggle to compete with. But if a team is sold on his receiving ability he might be considered a viable bottom of the roster candidate that compliments the rest of a running back room.”
