Perfect Picks: Tennessee Titans

With the NFL Draft approaching we will be looking at each team and evaluating where they need to improve. In this particular series we will run a seven round mock using the Pro Football Network Mock Draft Simulator and find the ‘Perfect Picks’ for each franchise.

We will highlight four players that could help each team. This will feature picks 1 and 2, a mid round gem and a late round sleeper.

Round 1 - Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa

Is it possible for an offensive line to be too nasty? If it is then giving the Titans Trevor Penning would bring them mighty close. Adding him to Taylor Lewan and Dillon Radunz would certainly have Derrick Henry licking his chops. Penning needs to rein that streak in to a degree and lower his penalty count but he showed the movement skills and length you look for in a top offensive tackle at both the Senior Bowl and Combine.

Round 3 - Jeremy Ruckert, TE, Ohio State

The Titans never found a replacement for Jonnu Smith and it means finding a Tight End is a priority. Jeremy Ruckert wasn’t featured heavily in an Ohio State offense laden with weapons. That means he has potential to develop that side of his game as a pro. His highlight tape shows his ability for spectacular grabs and a strong run blocking grade from PFF means the Titans should be able to utilise him from Day 1.

Mid Round Gem - Dominique Robinson, Edge, Miami (OH)

Tennessee made a significant investment on both sides of their defensive front. In Bud Dupree and Harold Landry they have two solid pass rushers to threaten opposing QBs. That means the rotation will need to be bulked out with low cost, value options. Ohio’s Dominique Robinson is long and twitchy but inexperienced, given he is a wide receiver convert. His 4.5 sacks last year are just scratching the surface of his potential.

Late Round Sleeper - D'Marco Jackson, LB, App State

D’Marco Jackson is an instinctive, downhill thumper. That’s clear from his 6 sacks and 20 tackles for loss in his final year at App State. Jackson is at his best scything through offensive lines to get into the backfield. He can use that speed on special teams to start and provide backup to presumed starters Zach Cunningham and David Long.
