2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Reggie Roberson

Film Watched: TCU 2021, TCU 2019, Temple 2019

Pro's:

  • Explosive off the line of scrimmage with track speed
  • Vertical threat with elite acceleration, allowing him to uncover deep
  • Sudden; stop and go’s, hitches a strength, and a nightmare for covering defenders
  • Playmaker with the ball in his hands – rampant in the open field
  • Demonstrates good ball skills outside of his frame, and makes impressive adjustments on errant passes
  • Disciplined route runner down the sideline, maintaining the ‘redline’ and dictating terms versus the DB
  • Tracks the ball well, particularly over his shoulder. Works to open throwing windows for his QB

Con's:

  • Lengthy injury history – season ended early in both 2019 (foot) & 2020 (torn ACL)
  • Didn’t demonstrate the same burst in 2021 as he had prior to the ACL – still recovering?
  • Limited route tree at SMU – left alignment only, vertical weapon, but could offer more in the NFL
  • High cut – lack of fluidity in route running. Wins with speed and suddenness, not agility or technique
  • Lacks the alpha dog mentality of a dominant outside receiver
  • Silly drops on tape

The Verdict:

“Two years ago, Reggie Roberson looked to have the world at his feet. After transferring from West Virginia, Roberson put up back to back 800 yard seasons for The Ponies, stressing defenses vertically and causing havoc with his speed. The torn ACL suffered in 2020 obviously derailed his growth, and he was noticeably rusty this past season as he rehabbed. Whether or not Roberson will ever achieve the same levels of athleticism is for medical teams to decide, but it will be the difference in his perception as a draft prospect; Roberson is a burner whose game is predicated on his ability to blow by coverage. He’s a little stiff to operate short and intermediate routes, and while there looks to be slot value it’s likely more as someone who can attack the seam. A risk-reward option on day three, Roberson’s projection at the next level isn’t an easy one.”
