2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Wright_Mykael

Film Watched: Fresno State 2021, California 2021, Washington State 2021

Pro's:

  • Intuitive, agile cornerback who has good read and react speed to be a nuisance at the catch point
  • Good movement skills in short to intermediate areas, transitioning well and keeping good coverage through routes
  • Excellent technique to intercede the passing lane and disrupt the reception
  • Ultra-competitive – plays a lot more physical than his size suggests
  • Love how ruthless he is fighting for the football at the catch point. No easy receptions on his watch
  • Shows good eye discipline in zone coverage to aid his anticipation and meet the threat
  • Excellent communicator on the back end, particularly in the slot

Con's:

  • Fails the measurables. Undersized and fights height and strength disadvantages on every play
  • Short length doesn’t affect him at the catch point, but causes issues as a tackler
  • Quick to hit and packs a punch, but slides down tackles and lets guys slip through his arms
  • Lack of long speed and struggles to match up with vertical receivers through the route
  • Ineffective getting off blocks to contribute against the run

The Verdict:

“Mykael Wright has defied his god given measurements with a mindset and on-field intelligence that scouts love to see. Combative and relentless, Wright will introduce himself to his opponent at the first catch point and not stop saying hello until sixty minutes are up. Wright has fine-tuned his instincts and angles to minimise his length deficiency, and is credited with an impressive 17 passes defended in just 31 games for Oregon. A career on the outside at the next level is unrealistic for Wright, but he brings a lot of the traits required to operate as a slot corner - or even safety - in both zone and man coverage. How he copes physically in the middle of the field will determine the length of his stay in the NFL, but his tape alone is worthy of him earning a roster spot and eventually working his way to some meaningful snaps on game day.”
