- Stiff. Most notable in off-man coverage when transitioning
- Change of direction is sluggish and can be preyed upon by shifty route-runners
- Doesn’t possess the straight line speed to stick with vertical threats
- Lack of plays on the football – just five interceptions and 15 passes defended in four years at Clemson
- Only nailed down a starting spot as a senior despite arriving as a five star recruit
The Verdict:
“Long and lean, Mario Goodrich is going to get some serious looks from scouts who have adopted the modern baseline measurables of an NFL cornerback. Becoming a starter for the first time in 2021, Goodrich demonstrated a polished game that is centred around dominating physically; receivers rarely get a free release when he’s in press, and the way he comes downhill to the football is almost thunderous. Goodrich has such good football IQ it’s hard to understand why he took so long to get starter reps, but he’s certainly an ascending prospect with probably more ability to unlock. Goodrich will need to find a home that disguises his lack of movement as much as possible if he is to maximise his potential, but there’s certainly backup potential here.”
