2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Kennedy Brooks

Film Watched: Texas 2021, Texas Tech 2019

Pro's:

  • Methodical, consistent and productive running back
  • Excellent build for an NFL back, with a thick trunk and strong powerful base.
  • Durable – missed just one game his entire career, and well rested after sitting out 2020 (COVID)
  • Has a great feel for timing, showing patience behind the line of scrimmage
  • Can gear up and down speed effortlessly to freeze tacklers
  • Good field vision behind the line, finding the lane that offers the best rate of return
  • Not shy upon contact, relying on his lower body torque to gain extra yards
  • Possesses the subtle adjustments to put second level tacklers at a disadvantage

Con's:

  • Lack of acceleration and top speed despite flashes of burst when necessary
  • Fluidity and change of direction a little tight – won’t make defenders miss in close combat
  • Doesn’t play with the alpha dog mentality you expect from a back his size and shape
  • A momentum running back that needs a good body of work to get into the flow of the game
  • Limited role as an option in the passing game at Oklahoma
  • Poor hands – too many dropped balls on simple swing passes out of the backfield

The Verdict:

“Kennedy Brooks is the perfect example of a running back that enjoyed a glittering career at college, only to find his skillset a little lacking for NFL standards. Upon first look you think he has the right physique and shape to be an every down back - and when he gets into a groove he utilises that timing and vision to be a productive ball carrier. But the restricted acceleration, speed and agility have you concerned that he’ll be far less effective at the next level. Without a real standout attribute to his game, scouts will look more closely at the deficiencies, such as his pass-catching ability. That being said, he’s always produced for The Sooners, and as an RB2 could offer the consistency and reliability NFL teams desire from their backups.
