2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Jerrion Ealy

Pro's:

  • An elusive back with an exceptional ability to make defenders miss.
  • He has an excellent juke move and good change of direction.
  • Turns the corner nicely and a good ability to cut or put on the brakes and get going well again, combined with his excellent vision makes him a threat.
  • He has rapid acceleration and will hit his top speed very quickly and better yet, he’ll maintain it.
  • A genuine dual threat running back who will be a safety valve for his quarterback to throw it off too in the backfield.
  • He will make his best impact in the NFL as a genuine third down back, best role and fit for him.
  • Not only does Ealy have electric speed but he combines this with excellent footwork and good lateral agility.
  • His explosiveness is possibly the best in the running back class.
  • Demonstrates patience behind the line of scrimmage and he will wait for holes to develop and once they do he will hit them like a bullet train.

Con's:

  • His size is something that will worry NFL scouts however all is not lost. I mean you only have to look at one of the best running backs in the league, LA Chargers Austin Ekeler. He has used his lack of size to become an advantage – Ealy would do himself a lot of favors to mirror Ekeler’s approach.
  • Ealy has a smaller frame which means he’s not reliable whatsoever when he’s pass blocking, all too often he’ll get bulldozed by opposing defenders.
  • Frustratingly, for a player with excellent hands he wasn’t used enough in the passing game by the Rebels as he only had 67 targets throughout his college career.

The Verdict:

“A four star recruit who made a big impact in high school and earned MVP honors in the 2019 Under Armour All-American game. A talented athlete, he was actually drafted in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks before committing to football with Ole Miss. Ealy continued his high school form as he was instantly named a starter for Ole Miss, in his freshman year he rushed 104 times for 722 yards and 6 touchdowns whilst hauling in 20 receptions for 172 yards and a further touchdown. In his sophomore season, the shortened COVID season he rushed 147 times for 745 yards and tapped in to the end zone 9 times, again he was involved in the passing game as he hauled in 15 catches for 155 yards and a further touchdown. Last season we had seen Ealy well truly put himself on the radar for this year’s draft. He had 133 rush attempts for a career high 768 yards and got in to the end zone 5 times, he also had a career high in receptions as he hauled in 32 attempts for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns Ealy received second-team All SEC honors in all three of his seasons at Ole Miss. He helped the Rebels reach this year’s Sugar Bowl which they ended up losing to the Baylor Bears; however Ealy did lead Ole Miss in rushing yards (12 carries for 65 yards)”
