- Lives in the backfield, softening edges and sneaking through the line of scrimmage
- Nice swim move to keep blockers hands from locking on to his pads
- Moves around the line of scrimmage
- Has the lateral mobility and low bend to attack the pocket from multiple alignments
- Reads and reacts to the landscape quickly once he opens a route to the backfield
Con's:
- Conditioning an issue; off the field for too many plays, and on his knees catching breath pre-snap
- Can get washed out by length, and struggles to fight off strong hand blocks
- Doesn’t make full use of his wingspan when a tackle can be made at extension
- Doesn’t have the sand in his pants to take on down blocks or double teams consistently
- Played just five games in the last two years due to opting out/injury
The Verdict:
“An exciting watch on what little tape there is, Kalia Davis is a well rounded, versatile lineman whose proficiency against both the pass and run is something you don’t necessarily expect to find from an unheralded prospect. Davis wins at the line of scrimmage with an explosiveness that is almost astonishing - almost every play sees him rock a blocker backwards as he channels his burst into power, and he showcases some nuance in his ability to penetrate the offensive line and hunt the football. Closing speed is good but sometimes erratic, and tackles or plays in the backfield have eluded him on occasion, but undoubtedly his biggest concern is his ability to stay on the field - be it injury or fatigue sending him to the sidelines. That in itself suggests you can get even more productivity out of Davis once his conditioning is correct, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him sneak into day two.”
