2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Pro's:

  • Multi-time team captain
  • Isn’t afraid to stick his nose into any gap
  • Shown the ability to split gaps quickly to make plays in the backfield
  • Locates the ball carrier well and comes downhill to make the play
  • Isn’t a super powerful tackler, but does bring a good deal of pop
  • Motor isn’t often talked about with non-DL, but Ross always has his running at peak condition

Con's:

  • Short with little arms
  • Sub-230 pounds
  • Below average speed for someone his size
  • Almost no backfield production until RsSr year
  • Looks like he’s moving in mud laterally
  • Can’t be on the field on obvious passing downs

The Verdict:

“Josh Ross has been heralded for his leadership, a great quality to have for a MLB, as they have to be the one to set the entire defense and make all the calls. However, his blend of size and athleticism is going to make it hard for him to see the field in the NFL. He shows good things on tape, such as diagnosing run plays and locating ball carriers quickly, then coming downhill to fill his gap. He is always revved up and ready to go at the snap of every play. He won’t be much of a difference maker in the passing game though, and that’s the most important thing a LB has to do in this era of football. Ross will need to become a special teams ace to make a 53 man roster as a rookie, in my opinion.”
