2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

9805015

Film Watched: Mississippi State 2021, Texas A&M 2021, Auburn 2021

Pro's:

  • All the measurables. Size, length, athleticism – Clark ticks all the boxes
  • Huge arms that corrals anything and everything that comes within his postcode
  • Non-stop motor; runs hot for sixty minutes
  • Crazy sideline to sideline speed and can cover every inch of grass
  • Never gives up on a play, and will chase down from the backside until the whistle
  • Relishes keeping off blocks against zone runs, strafing effortlessly to his run fit
  • Has the athleticism to cover a zone, and the click and close speed to break on the ball
  • Impressive development his senior year – 135 tackles – more than the previous 3 years combines
  • Big game performer – teammates look to him to lead the way during moments of adversity

Con's:

  • Inconsistent play diagnosis. Lets blocks get on top of him as he processes what’s in front of him
  • Evidence of making the wrong reads and missing his gap fit
  • Struggles to get off blocks if he brings his arms late to contact
  • Misdirection can catch him out
  • Has the size and muscle mass to be physically imposing, but offers mixed results
  • Serious neck surgery after the NFL Combine means he likely misses his entire rookie season

The Verdict:

“Damone Clark was a production machine for LSU in 2021, racking up tackles like they were going out of fashion. Clark possesses rare range for a linebacker and there’s not a spot on the field he cannot get to. He’ll chase down ball carriers all day long, and has shown he can command significant real estate against the pass with his straight line speed and wingspan. Clark has moments on tape that really lets his draft stock down - obvious errors in judgement, or times where his thought process doesn’t match the speed at which the rest of his body moves. Those moments were less common his final season in Baton Rouge, which will help convince scouts he’s still got the room for mental development. As a late pick on day two, I really like the value he brings as a potential starting Will linebacker in the NFL.”
