2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Pro's:

  • A receiver that can play over the top of defenses, makes his presence felt.
  • A great route runner who can shift speed and tempo, makes life difficult for defenders
  • NFL ready – offers versatility which when combined with his ability will enable him to fit most NFL systems.
  • Mr Reliable – excellent and reliable hands, catches everything thrown his way and has some of the best hands in the class.
  • An excellent athlete who ran a 10.8 100m sprint and also a 23’6 in the long jump, showcasing his speed and leap abilities.
  • Yes he is quick but more impressively he has an elite burst of speed
  • His burst of speed make him a great deep threat option, similar to what we’ve become accustomed to seeing from Will Fuller.
  • Good footballing IQ and will often find the soft spots in an opposing defense.
  • A natural pass catcher with the ability to snatch the ball out of the air in pass contention, his concentration allows him to make ‘highlight reel’ catches.

Con's:

  • He may lack the physicality to win often all of his battles on the outside.
  • Given his burst of speed, it’s somewhat surprising to see a lackluster stat line on yards after catch – you’d expect to see much more impressive numbers.
  • A polished and elite athlete but he definitely needs to get a lot stronger in the off-season, especially when he faces much tougher opponents in the NFL.

The Verdict:

“A three star recruit out of high school. Olave opted to join Ohio State and in his first season was a bit part player as he hauled in just 12 receptions but racked up an impressive 197 yards and 3 touchdowns. In his sophomore year he was used a lot more and led the Buckeyes receiving corp in yards as he amassed 840 yards and tapped in to the end zone 12 times. In the shortened COVID season he racked up 50 receptions for 729 yards and 7 touchdowns. Olave opted against declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft and committed to the Buckeyes for a further year and wow was it worth it. He racked up records in receptions, yards and touchdowns (65 receptions - 936 yards - 13 touchdowns) - led the Big Ten for receiving touchdowns A glittering college career had seen Olave honored in the first-team All Big 10 team in 2020 and 2021, second-team All American in 2021 and was a semifinalist for the Fred Biletnikoff Award. He was also part of the Buckeyes recent team success as they won the Rose Bowl in 2019 and 2022 and Sugar Bowl winners in 2021”
