2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Brian Robinson

Film Watched: Auburn 2021, Cincinnati 2021, Missouri 2020

Pro's:

  • Physical back that embraces contact without hesitation
  • Thick and sturdy frame that looks built to endure NFL punishment
  • Ignores first contact and fights hard for every yard
  • Power running style with one-cut ability to shoot through the line of scrimmage
  • Sneakily good close-quarter footwork to fit through gaps and evaded lower contact
  • Good top speed, and a nightmare to get to the ground once he’s reached it
  • Excellent pass blocker; diagnoses the threat quickly and matches technique with desire
  • Increased use as a pass catcher in his final season in Tuscaloosa

Con's:

  • Physical running style may mean a lack of longevity – already has 55 college games under his belt
  • One-dimensional, north-south runner that hits the hole hard and takes what he can
  • Lack of elusiveness in the open field to avoid tackles
  • Runs tall, demonstrating a lack of contact leverage with the ball in hand
  • Burst and acceleration acceptable, but doesn’t match the top speed he can get to
  • Over-committed to the predetermined run gap – doesn’t adjust to what he sees

The Verdict:

“Nobody brings their lunch pail to work quite like Brian Robinson does, and linebackers know they’re in for a long day when they see him behind the line of scrimmage. As physical a ball carrier as you can imagine, Robinson will eschew any suggestion of avoiding contact - choosing to simply run right through it wherever possible. His athletic traits offer him enough movement and fluidity to be an NFL back, but you hope to see him utilise them a bit more rather than taking punishment on every carry. Whilst his field vision and ability to adjust on the fly might be lacking, you cannot argue with the production he offers. Considered a short-yardage hammer back at the very least, Robinson will likely command passing reps too as teams value his blocking prowess. How long he can last with such an aggressive playing style is unknown, but he’ll likely be an early contributor at the next level.”
