2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Max Borghi

Film Watched: Utah 2020, Air Force 2019, Oregon 2019

Pro's:

  • Explosive ball carrier with instant top speed ability
  • Able to beat any linebacker to the corner and attack the perimeter
  • Touchdown machine at Wazzu – hit paydirt 41 times in 39 career games
  • Lightning feet, able to change direction on a dime
  • Excellent field vision, determining where the danger is coming from and running away from it
  • Valuable contributor as a pass catcher, 156 receptions and 1,134 yards for the Cougars
  • Limited experience as a returner, but has the game to be a special teams contributor

Con's:

  • Undersized. 5’9” and sub-200lbs – not built for heavy exposure in the NFL
  • Lower body strength must be developed in order to compete at the next level
  • Hesitant to engage contact with a defender – will always go around rather than through a tackler
  • Strictly an outside runner; should only be considered for inside carries in zone schemes
  • Little yards after contact. Needs to be kept clean or will finish where he is touched
  • Lack of aggression with the ball in hand – unless he sees the endzone, which is like a red rag to a bull

The Verdict:

“Despite being a smaller guy, Max Borghi was given a healthy workload up in Pullman, and didn’t miss any gametime whatsoever. A man with a nose for six points, Borghi spent most of his time in the endzone for the Cougars, a result of his explosive athleticism and diverse role he had within the offense. At the next level, his role is restricted to that of a scatback, able to move around the formation and find space where he can use his speed to strain a defense. He won’t be half as productive as he was at college, but if he proves capable of being a special teams weapon then a role as a third down back isn’t beyond him. Just don’t expect him to be a workhorse between the tackles on a smashmouth offense - it’s just not his game.”
