- Long-striding ‘plodder’ who will win after the catch with power, but won’t run away from defenders
- Leaves his jersey exposed versus press coverage
- Stiff hipped with limited short area agility
- Significant loss of speed on routes with sharp cuts
The Verdict:
“Alec Pierce will be pigeon-holed as a possession receiver at the next level, but teams would do well to look harder at the tape; a natural receiver with the size and length scouts looks for, Pierce brings underappreciated speed and deep-field ability. He was the big play threat for the Bearcats on their unlikely run to the College Football Playoffs, and whilst he won’t confuse anyone for Tyreek Hill he can move a lot better than he’s given credit for. That being said, his best opportunity at the next level would probably be as a ‘big slot’ receiver where he can use his power and aggression to good effect across all three levels of the middle of the field. Pierce’s draft stock could vary wildly from team to team, but a fair estimate would be a late day two / early day three pick. Expect him to make a contribution to an offense as a rookie.”
