With the NFL Draft approaching we will be looking at each team and evaluating where they need to improve. In this particular series we will run a seven round mock using the Pro Football Network Mock Draft Simulator and find the ‘Perfect Picks’ for each franchise.
We will highlight four players that could help each team. This will feature picks 1 and 2, a mid round gem and a late round sleeper.
The Packers have invested heavily in their defensive front. Kenny Clark and Dean Lowry are high priced assets who could face, at the very least, some contract restructuring and at worst Lowry could even be a cap casualty. With that in mind finding a younger, cheaper defensive tackle like Wyatt would be a good move. While overshadowed by Jordan Davis, Wyatt could become a more well-rounded pro due to his ability to get to the QB.
The Packers need to find a partner for DeVondre Campbell at linebacker. Resigning Campbell will be a priority after a solid prove it deal, but he can’t do it on his own. Chad Muma will get comparisons with former teammate Logan Wilson and he possesses the same high energy, tackling machine mentality. Muma led the Cowboys in tackles during his final two years and also snagged three interceptions showing his ability in coverage. Plug him in here and it upgrades the defense instantly.
Having finally avoided the temptation of giving the Packers a wide receiver in the first round I settle for a guy I think can really outperform his draft standing. Pierce could rise up the boards yet, but at this spot he offers great value. It is daunting for Packers fans thinking they may be without Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams and the hope will be at least Adams returns. Pierce has great size at 6’3 to go with excellent route running and deceptive speed. He offers a polished deep threat and redzone target to hopefully add to the Packers group rather than replace their star receiver.
Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa offers some position versatility along the defensive front. Having spent his early career lining up against guards, 2021 saw him spend more time on the edge. He tallied 34 pressures and 4 sacks, a big uptick on previous years. At 6’3, 268lbs he falls between the normal build of both a traditional 3-tech and edge player in an even front. What he should do is provide a solid backup option to start his career.
