- Very much a north-south runner, one-cut and go. Size inhibits short-area agility
- Increased usage as a receiver as a senior, but far from a ‘pass-catching back’
- Ball leaves the safety of his body at top speed – six fumbles in his career
- Long speed not elite
- Takes questionable angles, likely reliant on running through a tackler if necessary
The Verdict:
“Used predominantly as an inside-zone runner at BYU, Tyler Allgeier has the strength, vision and burst to operate in pretty much any offensive scheme at the next level. A runaway freight train that is at top speed impressively quickly, Allgeier’s desire to run into someone probably masks some underappreciated elusivity that a man of his size should not possess. The former linebacker in him is evident on tape, and he finishes urgently and violently, sometimes without necessity. He’s not a one trick pony but he’s also not the oven-ready three-down back that the NFL demands, meaning he’s likely viewed as an early-down tone setter in a backfield committee with bonus big play ability. Allgeier feels like a throwback, but disregard him as one-dimensional and he’ll make you pay.”
