2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Walker, Travon

Pro's:

  • Immaculate build for the edge in the NFL – 35” arms to go along with a 6’5” 270 frame
  • One of the most legendary combine performances ever proved his unthinkable athleticism
  • Had a rep against Evan Neal where he literally picks up and tosses him – Evan Neal is 330 pounds.
  • Anchors well against double teams
  • Has potential as a stand up or hand in the dirt rusher
  • Not sure I saw him back flat on the ground at any point in 5 games – this tells me that blockers never just absolutely dominate him
  • Plays with a great pad level –  he seems to understand leverage well

Con's:

  • Rarely flashes on tape, not a lot pass rush production to speak of
  • At times can forget his punch and runs chest to chest with blockers
  • No counter moves to speak of
  • Doesn’t have great hip flexibility, can’t win the edge with his bend
  • His athleticism doesn’t often flash unless left untouched on way to the QB
  • Needs to get better at disengaging from his blocker, his power and length should make this easier then it shows to be on film

The Verdict:

“Travon Walker is this year’s case of insane athletic testing, but no real on field production to back it up. He is one of the freakiest athletes we have ever seen, the problem is the only place we really got to see it was at the combine. Walker has every tool needed to dominate the edge in college, and in the NFL. His length, speed, and power are all top tier, so the only question really is, “Well why doesn’t it show up when I’m watching him?” If Walker lands in a situation known for developing top tier athletes into top tier pass rushers, Walker could turn out to be a weapon in the very near future.”
