- Cannot stay healthy – Multiple injuries throughout his time in Manhattan, including a season-ending shoulder injury in 2020 and plagued by a knee problem in 2021.
- Arm strength questionable on deep shots, and accuracy wanes beyond intermediate throws
- Would like to see him deliver the ball with a little more anticipation – needs to see it to believe it
- Guilty of throwing his receivers into trouble – ‘hospital passes’ and lack of YAC opportunity
- Less conviction on passes outside the numbers compared to throws over the middle
The Verdict:
“Skylar Thompson is a cult hero at Kansas State. His dedication to the cause and ability to keep The Wildcats in contests against bigger teams in the Big 12 is marred only by his inability to stay on the field. Perhaps one is a by-product of the other; Thompson ruthlessly sacrifices his body in his pursuit of victory, and it has caused him to miss significant game time in four of the five seasons he’s been a starter. With only an average arm, NFL teams will see little reason to take a chance on a quarterback who may spend more time in the blue tent than under center, which is a shame. He’s not only fun to watch, he’s a winner who is hard to keep under control when he gets into his rhythm. It will be a surprise if he hears his name called on draft weekend, but expect him to fight for a roster spot in training camp.”
