- Well built offensive lineman with three years at left tackle under his belt
- Decent athlete; nice burst out of his stance and able to get good vertical distance before contact
- Appreciate his upper body strength; big hands deliver one heck of a blow to a defender’s chest
- Engages contact with good mechanics, keeping himself square to his opponent
- Good timing of his punches allow him to get on top in reps consistently
- Valuable asset pulling and blocking downfield
- Natural blocking on the move in zone schemes, identifying where the work is to be done
- A nasty finisher when he has the opportunity to put the defender on the turf

Con's:
- Slightly short on length and maybe top level lateral agility – will be considered a guard in the NFL
- Good technique embracing bull rushers but lower half not as thick as his upper
- Desire to get depth before contact sees his pad level rise too high, occasionally ceding leverage
- Pressure of reaching the arc has seen instances of oversetting – won’t be a problem at guard
- Outside arm not strong enough at full extension to force speed rushers wide of the arc
The Verdict:
“Sean Rhyan is an interesting blend of sufficient strength and athleticism to find himself a home in an NFL offense. Considering he has three years of protecting the blindside at UCLA on his resume, it would not surprise me in the least to see a team try him on the outside first, but for me he could be even more accomplished if he kicks inside to guard, where his lack of elite traits won’t be as apparent. Rhyan plays with impressive technique and desire, can almost be described as ‘a technician with an edge’, and will have no problem acclimating to the next level. I think he’s scheme versatile, and his positional flexibility will also improve his draft stock. Don’t be surprised to see Rhyan go a little earlier than you might think - an early day two selection is not out of the question.”
