2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Film Watched: Ole Miss 2021, Alabama 2021, Florida 2020

Pro's:

  • Natural cornerback who possesses elite instincts and awareness for the position
  • Impressive play strength, and can compete to disrupt receivers at the line of scrimmage
  • Good feel for staying in phase, and rarely gives separation by anticipating route breaks
  • Disciplined eyes in zone coverage and is processes quickly, giving him a head start to attack the pass
  • Has a penchant for game-changing plays. Five interceptions and one fumble recovery in 2021
  • Demonstrates good timing at the catch point to affect the receiver
  • Competitive and physical when necessary; will battle to get off blocks and tackle ball carriers
  • Brings some pop as a tackler and is active in trying to jar the football loose

Con's:

  • Limited athletically, although has honed other skills to accommodate for any lack of speed
  • Better in zone than in man; clunky through his transitions
  • Will need safety help versus speedy x receivers
  • Doesn’t have the recovery quicks to get back in on plays when beaten early
  • Too eager to make a play on the ball? Caught with misdirection on a couple of occasions

The Verdict:

“Sleeper alert! Montaric Brown is likely going to fall to day three, and I think it’s a crime against talent. An experienced corner who has 34 games under his belt, Brown has seen everything whilst he plied his trade in the SEC for four years. A lot was expected of the five star recruit when he stayed home and committed to Arkansas, and the Razorback did not disappoint. Brown plays with an impressive level of intuitiveness for the position, at his best in zone coverage where he can use his smarts to full effectiveness. It’s fair to say that Brown is a touch scheme-dependent and likely won’t be courted by teams who use a lot of off-man coverage concepts that require elite agility from the defensive backs. But as a cover 2 or 3 corner with added press and slot ability, I’m inclined to believe that he has immediate starter potential.”
