Film Watched: Louisville 2021, Auburn 2018, Pitt 2018

Pro's:

  • Evasive, athletic quarterback who has a knack for extending plays and making things happen
  • Houdini-esque; able to wriggle out of seemingly hopeless situations and keep the play alive
  • Well coached with good lower-half fundamentals; footwork, base, throwing motion all clean
  • Demonstrates nice touch on throws, and able to adjust velocity as the situation dictates
  • Accurate on short to medium throws, excelling at leading the receiver on crossing routes
  • Composed outside of the pocket, delivering with accuracy
  • Proven winner – won 23 games in 2 seasons at UCF with no losses – program changer

Con's:

  • Height prohibitive to an NFL career – not many 5’11” quarterbacks make it at the next level
  • Worryingly lacking in body mass, with a frame that looks unsuitable to carry much more weight
  • Doesn’t have a big arm. Downfield throws usually short or require big windup to get there
  • Accuracy wanes further downfield he goes, losing touch. Balls die on him on deep shots
  • Horrendous knee injury as a junior might have long term effects
  • Disappointing final season in Tallahassee upon his return to the field

The Verdict:

“By now everyone knows the story of McKenzie Milton, the exciting dynamic quarterback who led UCF to that famous unbeaten season and New Year’s Six bowl win over Auburn in 2017. His never say die attitude made him a fan favourite whether you were an Orlando native or not, and the whole world was rooting for him to be a success at Florida State this past season as he looked to bounce back from the dislocated knee. Sadly it wasn’t to be, and we might never see peak McKenzie Milton again - but if we’re honest, even at the top of his game Milton was going to struggle with the jump to the NFL. Underwhelming size, stature and arm strength likely make him nothing more than a UDFA flier once the draft is over, but count this kid out at your peril - overcoming adversity is what he does.”
