2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Markquese Bell

Film Watched: Southeastern Louisiana 2021, Southern 2021, NFLPA Bowl

Pro's:

  • Incredible height and length – perfect measurements to play as a deep fielder in the NFL
  • Crazy straight-line speed – will hair downhill to the football in the blink of an eye
  • Has the coverage ability to play single high
  • Dedicated and disciplined run defender. Fires into his run fits to meet the ball carrier
  • Massive wingspan gives him good tackling range
  • All the arm length to invade the catch point
  • Good communicator on the back end, and aware of his and his teammates’ responsibilities
  • Ball hawk; five interceptions in two seasons at Florida A&M

Con's:

  • A little raw, and footwork, tackling technique & angles of pursuit all need refinement
  • Fast but not particularly agile – high cut and changing direction is difficult
  • Has challenges mirroring receivers in man coverage, and allows separation through routes
  • Maturity issues? Suspended & ultimately left Maryland for violating team code of conduct
  • Steep learning curve in store jumping from the FCS level to the NFL

The Verdict:

“NFL teams that put a premium on size and length in their defensive backs will salivate over Markquese Bell, who comes built for the modern game. After departing Maryland and spending a season in the JuCo ranks, Bell found a fresh start at Florida A&M, where he utilised his measurements to full effect. Bell tormented opposing quarterbacks for two years - his ability to cover the width of the field and fly down to the football was matched only by his playmaking prowess, and he became a true star at the FCS level. Bell is sure to endure some growing pains in the NFL as his technique is shoddy in plenty of areas, but if he can clean up his footwork and develop his instincts there’s a hell of a lot of upside to be enjoyed here. Bell doesn’t have everything you want in a prospect, but if it all clicks he can be an eventual starting free safety at the next level.”
