Pro's:

  • Elite athlete. Stupid speed – former track star whose pace translates to the cornerback position
  • Quick-twitch; instant trigger and lightning feet to attack the catch point from zone coverage
  • Proficient mirroring routes, with quick feet allowing him to shadow cuts & breaks effectively
  • Graceful in off-man through his backpedal, and zero loss of velocity in his transition
  • Ultra-competitive. Refuses to be disrespected and does his talking with his performance
  • Vastly experienced; five year starter at Wake Forest
  • Versatile; lined up inside and outside for the Demon Deacons
  • Electric kick returner that brings added special teams value to the NFL

Con's:

  • Undersized. Struggles to reroute receivers when jamming them at the line of scrimmage
  • Lack of arm length at the catch point make him focus more on the tackle than the ball
  • Attracted more penalties on the outside in his final year in Winston-Salem
  • Has some broken tackles on tape where his arm length betrays his technique and aggression

The Verdict:

“Ja’Sir Taylor has attracted a vocal fanclub during the draft process, a result of enjoyable tape and predictably strong athletic testing. Taylor is electric across the turf; someone who rarely gives receivers an inch by being able to match them vertically stride for stride. In the slot, Taylor’s tenacity and springy nature allows him to ghost shifty receivers throughout their routes, invading the passing lane and frustrating quarterbacks with his ability to close windows quickly. Taylor inevitably battles against his size and length, and will likely find life tough on the outside at the next level. But the profile he brings to the NFL seems ideally suited to the role of a slot corner who can also be a serious special teams asset. Taylor shined at the Shrine Bowl, and I expect him to continue to confound expectations in his pro career.”
