2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Film Watched: Gardner-Webb 2021, South Carolina State 2021

Pro's:

  • Compact, robust running back with a low centre of gravity & excellent pad height on contact
  • Embraces physicality, with good leg drive upon engagement to fight for extra yards
  • Navigates through the clutter extremely well, showing nimble footwork to fit through tight gaps
  • Impressive acceleration; puts his foot in the ground and explodes through the line of scrimmage
  • Demonstrates good patience and timing allowing blockers to develop before finding the lane
  • Got some wiggle to him, with good hip fluidity & the agility to make cutback lanes
  • Doesn’t hesitate to get north, and is rarely tackled in the backfield

Con's:

  • Transferred from Coastal Carolina to find playing time
  • Significant statistical regression in 2021
  • Just 22 catches in three years at North Carolina A&T
  • Dedication to pass protection questionable
  • Hand placement when blocking can be improved

The Verdict:

“ During his time at A&T, Jah-Maine Martin has flashed the talent that saw him recruited by Coastal Carolina back in 2017. Adept in any offensive scheme, Martin demonstrates the patience and agility to work in a zone blocking scheme and the burst and power to be effective in a more traditional gap scheme. Unfortunately, 2021 saw a big step back from his gaudy 2019 numbers, with less than half the amount of yards and just a fifth of the TD’s on a similar number of carries. That regression, coupled with his negligible offering as a pass catcher, makes Martin a borderline draft prospect who is more likely to be picked up for a training camp after draft weekend has finished.”
