2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Jack Jones

Film Watched: Southern Utah 2021, Utah 2019, Oregon 2019

Pro's:

  • Playmaker. 10 interceptions in 38 college games, including four picks in his first season (USC)
  • Sticky. Good foot quickness to mirror opponents in man coverage and minimise separation
  • Loose-hipped and shows some good anticipation to keep close through sharp breaks
  • Smooth mover across the field who backpedals to his landmark in zone cleanly
  • Anticipatory; instincts tell him where to be, aiding his ball production
  • Good explosion to fire downhill and crash the party
  • Appreciate his ability to undercut routes and get between ball and receiver
  • Plays calm and controlled, and relies on his technique when confronted with size

Con's:

  • Kicked off the team at USC after becoming academically ineligible
  • Character concerns; pleaded guilty to burglary after breaking into a restaurant in 2018
  • Suspended almost all of 2020 for violation of team rules (played one game)
  • Lean and lightweight; doesn’t have the physicality to dictate terms in press coverage
  • Plays tall through contact, yielding leverage to his opponent
  • Short arms cause issues at the catch point and fending off blocks

The Verdict:

“Jack Jones’ college career resembles something akin to a soap drama. Bursting onto the scene at USC, Jones was a big play threat before losing his academic status and leaving the Trojans. His subsequent arrest and charge left his career in the balance, but he rebounded well to head to Moorpark Junior College and get his career back on track. Drama hadn’t forgotten him though, and he was suspended at Arizona State for breach of team rules believed to be COVID related, as well as a reported fight with former teammate Aashari Croswell. On the field, Jones has the talent to flip the momentum in games, but he’s inconsistent and has a lack of play strength that inhibits his ability to play press coverage. He’s an outside corner suited to zone, but his limited offering and unlimited baggage means he could fall through the cracks.”
