Film Watched: Central Michigan 2021, Minnesota 2021, Senior Bow

Pro's:

  • Flashed the burst quickness to really stress blockers at the NFL level
  • Immediate and incessant pressure applied to the offensive line – no let up
  • Ultra-agile, with more to come as he learns the nuances of the position
  • Has the change of direction speed assumed of a former receiver, and is a threat with inside-outside counters
  • A backfield menace when tasked with gap shooting on the interior
  • Has the speed to challenge tackles around the edge, and will work underneath their hands round the arc
  • Good length and active arms keep him free of blocks and able to make tackles versus the run
  • Has developed some hand counters and pass rush moves in his short time at the position

Con's:

  • Raw. Played the position for just two years after converting from wide receiver at Miami (OH)
  • Unaccomplished run defender, with early projection as a DPR at the next level
  • Needs to add more lower body strength and understand leverage to maintain gap integrity
  • Mental processing understandably a work in progress – play diagnosis a tick slow
  • Lack of functional strength throughout his game
  • Speed to power transfer undeveloped – notable lack of pop through contact

The Verdict:

“Some people are just naturally good football players. Despite plying his trade on the offensive side of the ball all his life, as a receiver and tight end, Dominique Robinson converted to edge rusher for the RedHawks and did admirably well in just fifteen games at the position. The upside for Robinson is off the charts based on his measurables and athletic testing, but there is a long way to go before he can reasonably challenge the depth chart or command any reps on gameday. Technique improvements are already progressing but need more work, and a serious dedication to the weight room will help him combat run defense duties more successfully. His likely route to an NFL field will come as a designated pass rusher - from a base end or outside linebacker spot - with the hope of more as he hones his craft.”
