2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

_0_Devin_Lloyd_IMG_6380

Pro's:

  • Lloyd can do it all. He can blitz, block and cover tight ends, possibly the best linebacker in this year’s class.
  • An excellent pre snap communicator who gets things organized before the ball is snapped, will often look to seek out mismatches across the field.
  • A high octane player who plays the game at full speed and with a competitive toughness.
  • Offers versatility. He’s the definition of a modern linebacker who has lined up at ‘Mike’ OLB, on the edge and at ‘Will’ lining up anywhere across the formation.
  • An excellent blitz player when required to do so.
  • He is brutal against the run game and is versatile in coverage; despite his stature he holds up traffic well and pursues nicely.
  • He has the physical prowess that you see in a modern day linebacker. He’s not afraid to put his body in the line and plays fully committed.
  • An excellent motor allows him to play the majority of snaps and he’ll rarely leave the field..

Con's:

  • Lloyd is a good athlete however his change of direction and balance can look clunky.
  • He can be overly aggressive and overrun his lanes and will all too often rely on his speed to recover – it may not be as easy to do this against the elite in the NFL.
  • He will need to bulk up his frame a little more. In the past year he has done so but we still that tackles are able to handle him easily enough on pass-rushing reps.
  •

The Verdict:

“A three star recruit out of high school. He wasn’t heavily recruited and received just one offer from the ‘Power 5’ as Lloyd committed to the Utah Utes. In his freshman year for the Utes though it was a little slow going as he only played 3 games mustering up 6 tackles. Things changed in his sophomore year as he was named a starter for the Utes and began to catch the Nation’s attention. Featuring 14 times he amassed an impressive 91 tackles, 11.0 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks and a 64 yard pick six as he earned an honorable mention in the Pac-12. A COVID disrupted 2020 season hindered Lloyd from building on his successful sophomore season as Utah only played 5 games all year. He still racked up an impressive stat line as he had 48 tackles, 10.0 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and a forced fumble which led to him receiving first-team All-Pac 12 honors and he was a finalist for the Butkus Award. Lloyd committed to the Utes for a fourth season and what a decision it was, he has seen his draft stock soar. He played 14 times for Utah as he amassed 111 tackles, 22.0 tackles for a loss, 7.0 sacks, a forced fumble and 4 interceptions - taking two of them to the house. This led to Lloyd receiving first-team All-Pac12 and consensus first-team All American honors”
