2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Daxton Hill

Pro's:

  • Electric speed with a good man coverage ability for someone at the safety position.
  • An athletic beast. Elite athleticism with insane speed, acceleration and a good change of direction.
  • His athleticism combined with his smooth running and loose hips to turn and run allow him the key attributes to be an insane coverage player.
  • Kyle Hamilton is gaining the plaudits for his athleticism, he’s just as impressive. Hill is often one of the top SPARQ rated safeties (Speed, Power and Reaction, Quickness)
  • Hill’s game speed is impressive. He uses his athletic prowess to his advantage.
  • Can be quite aggressive and shows glimpses of his physicality, more than willing to engage and meet ball carriers. Good at calculating tackles rather than just throwing himself into it for the sake of it.
  • Extremely versatile safety who can play as a single-high free safety, outside corner, a nickel back and he’s even lined up as a dime backer. A genuine swiss army knife style defensive back.
  • A genuine competitor and tough footballer, he will always look to make a big hit on contact and come out with the ball.
  • An added bonus is that Hill has featured as part of the Wolverines special teams unit.

Con's:

  • Whilst Hill’s athleticism is elite he could do with improving his footballing IQ to unlock his full potential, he has shown improvements this past season.
  • Coverage abilities can be a mixed bag. One minute he’ll be making a big play and the next minute he can look flat footed and not get anywhere near the receiver.
  • His versatility is a huge positive, however it’s also a slight negative as he has not been able to focus on one specific role throughout college.

The Verdict:

“Ever since high school it was obvious that Daxton Hill was destined for the big time just like his older brother, Baltimore Ravens running back Justice Hill. As per USA Today he received high school All American honors. A five star recruit and ranked 13th as per ESPN’s Top 300 and the number 1 ranked safety in Oklahoma, he had a flurry of college offers but he made his mind up early on as he committed to Michigan. He picked up where he left off as he hit the ground running in his freshman year for the Wolverines - racking up 36 tackles, 3.0 tackles for a loss, 1 interception and 2 fumble recoveries. In the following season albeit the shortened COVID season, Hill continued to impress. In the 6 games he played he finished the season second in tackles after racking up 44 on the year and also taking in an interception. This past season though, Hill has shown the Nation why he is one of the best safeties in the class. An impressive year had seen him chalk up 69 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, 0.5 sacks, 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery, leading Hill to first-team All-Big Ten honors. ”
