2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Dameon Pierce

Film Watched: Tennessee 2021, Georgia 2021, Arkansas 2020

Pro's:

  • Powerful ‘bowling ball’ running back with tremendous lower body strength
  • Low centre of gravity that allows him to win the leverage battle and keep the legs driving
  • Looks to initiate contact on engagement every single carry
  • Violent finisher, making defenders pay for attempting to tackle him
  • Doesn’t waste steps – decent burst, up to full speed, and rattles through the line of scrimmage
  • Experience in both gap and zone schemes
  • Just 329 carries in four years – no issue of wear and tear on his body.
  • Grew as a pass catcher in his final two seasons in Gainesville
  • Competitive in pass protection

Con's:

  • Want a little more fluidity in tight quarters – Pierce can ride contact, but struggles to avoid it
  • Lack of twitch in the open field to freeze tacklers
  • Full throttle on every play; not many instances of nuance or patience behind the line
  • Insistent and urgent rather than fast – top speed won’t wow scouts
  • Will always take what’s given; not a natural creating something out of nothing
  • Why the low body of work at Florida?

The Verdict:

“Dameon Pierce runs like his life is on the line on every carry. The ultimate competitor, Pierce fights for every inch he can get, and makes sure defenders think twice about getting in his way again. The former Gator heads into the draft process something of an enigma; the tape tells you he should have seen a lot more carries at Florida, and yet he heads to the NFL with a meagre body of work. That freshness will be appealing, but it also means he’s yet to develop the patience and vision in the backfield to mix up his run style and truly maximise his potential. His growth as a pass-catcher, blocker and redzone threat as a senior - plus his performances at the Senior Bowl - suggests everything is trending up for Pierce. Expect him to earn at least a share of running back duties in an NFL backfield and continue to improve from there.”
