2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Corey Sutton

Film Watched: Arkansas State 2021, LA-Monroe 2021, Coastal Carolina 2021, Georgia State 2019

Pro's:

  • Ideal NFL measurables as a perimeter receiver with ‘big slot’ versatility
  • An absolute natural catching the football. Some unreasonable receptions on his tape
  • Excellent length to go with tall frame, giving him a windmill catch radius
  • Nifty footwork aides his release off the line to uncover quickly for short passes
  • Savvy route running with enough lateral agility to gain separation out of his breaks
  • Master of angles with the ball in his hand, maximising yardage after the catch
  • Diverse route tree at App State – asked to do everything

Con's:

  • Suffered a torn ACL at the end of 2019, but bounced back with his best season in 2021 after a year out
  • Unremarkable top speed
  • Some fumbles on his resume, vulnerable to big hits
  • Pushes off opponents at his route breaks – might see more attention from the referees in the NFL
  • Hand placement as a blocker is inconsistent, allowing defenders to shed him too easily

The Verdict:

“People should be talking about App State’s Corey Sutton a hell of a lot more. Turn on the Georgia State tape from 2019 and you’ll witness a wide receiver that simply takes over a game of football. As a pass catcher you’ll be hard pushed to find one that hauls in the football more impressively; your classic snatch and grab artist at the catch point that was so effective his QB ended up just throwing it up there for Sutton to come down with, regardless of separation. With zero lingering injury concerns following the missing 2020 season, Sutton never particularly won with sheer speed anyway. There’ll definitely be some growing pains as he acclimates to the next level, but the ceiling of what he could be is intriguing. Considering he might end up going undrafted, Sutton is a name to watch late on day three.”
