2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Mafe_Boye

Film Watched: Ohio State 2021, Nebraska 2021, Maryland 2021

Pro's:

  • Explosive. Violent burst off the line of scrimmage with impressive speed to power conversion
  • Motor runs hot on every play – never gives anything less than 100% effort
  • Attack dog mentality; pops into contact with ferocity and heavy hands that keep him clean
  • Plays low and coils power to explode up into blockers, driving them up and out of his way
  • Has good bend round the arc and is able to keep a tight turning circle as he infiltrates the pocket
  • Will hunt down plays from the backside all day long
  • Has the upper body strength to control blocks and disengage to the football in the run game
  • Impressive development as a senior, rushing from both schemes and racking up seven sacks

Con's:

  • Raw and still needs to add finesse to his skillset
  • Uncoordinated footwork off the snap makes him work harder to get depth before contact than necessary
  • Undeveloped hand usage outside of a ‘dip & rip’ move – needs to learn to vary and pair pass rush moves
  • Can be manipulated by length and lose gap integrity
  • Doesn’t use his own length to full extension as consistently as you hope for, and can get stuck on blocks

The Verdict:

“Boye Mafe is an aggressive ball of power and speed that has only just started to realise his full potential. Heading into 2021, Mafe had only shown glimpses of what he’s capable of, but a big senior season followed up with incredible Senior Bowl and NFL Combine performances have seen his draft stock take a major upswing. Mafe has the measurables and the numbers and has shown he can get home using little more than just those - so how good is he going to be when he develops his pass rush moves, footwork and hand technique? He can play the end in a four man front, drop back to pass rushing linebacker in a 3-4, and even play the Leo hybrid role as a stand up DPR on the line of scrimmage. Mafe has the world at his feet, and at this point it will be shocking if he doesn’t hear his name called on day one.”
