2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

aidan hutchinson

Pro's:

  • A high-floor type edge rusher who is as NFL ready as they come.
  • Throughout the past year Hutchinson was the most dominant pass rusher in college football and almost impossible to block.
  • An elite athlete with a combination of strength, speed, good burst of pace and has fluid footwork.
  • His athleticism allows him to redirect and reverse momentum with ease and close well with his burst of speed.
  • He can quickly understand running concepts, can shed blocks and has a vice-like grip that enables him to stand out when defending the run.
  • A versatile player who can play in various alignments such as 3 and 5 technique as well as far outside on the tackles shoulder.
  • Throughout the past year Hutchinson mainly lined up as a stand up rusher however in previous seasons he demonstrated he could win in the dirt from an in line alignment, further adding to his versatility.
  • For a guy of his size he has excellent lateral mobility and has excellent mobility whilst looking light and agile when changing direction.
  • His first step out of the snap is outrageously explosive, especially when you combine it with his frame, enabling him to put instant pressure on offensive tackles.

Con's:

  • Hutchinson could improve his pass rush game by adding more moves to his game.
  • His bend is slightly lacking, his frame can limit him from being that player who is able to turn corners when he is rushing the outside edge.
  • The ankle injury from 2020 may still cause a slight concern as to how this will hold up in the future.

The Verdict:

“A four star recruit out of high school who didn’t make much of an impact for the Wolverines until his second year as he put up an impressive stat line of 68 tackles, 10.0 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles, leading Hutchinson to third-team Big Ten honors Hutchinson’s progress was stopped in the 2020 season after an ankle injury in the third game of the season which led to him opting to return for his senior year In the past season he has played lights out all year. He had racked up 62 tackles, 16.5 tackles for a loss, 14 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. A successful year saw Hutchinson gain individual accolades as he was named winner of the Ted Hendricks Award, The Lombardi Award and the Lott IMPACT Trophy as well as the Nagurski-Woodson defensive player of the year and the Smith-Brown defensive lineman of the year. Hutchinson also led the Wolverines to their first Big-10 Championship since 2015, he was named the MVP as Michigan dismantled the Iowa Hawkeyes 42-3”
