NFL Betting: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints

Take a 7-9 team, throw in a 43-year-old Quarterback and a semi-retired tight end and apparently what you have is a Super Bowl contender? That’s what the passengers on the Buccaneers hype train would have you believe, but I’m not buying a ticket just yet. Just one look at this NFL matchup told me that this Buccaneers Saints line was off, and for that reason it contains my first Sunday betting pick of the season.

Who has the advantage in this one?

Tom Brady is an improvement on Jameis Winston, there is no doubt about that. But after two decades in New England under Belichick he is now asked to pick up a new system, roll into New Orleans and take down one of the league’s better defenses. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, try teaching them in a pandemic hit training camp with no pre-season games. New tricks don’t present a problem for the Saints, they have one of the best rosters in the NFL, and after retaining their key weapons in the off season they are well versed in the ways of their head coach Sean Payton.

What does this mean when it comes to picking this game?

Strip back the Hollywood romance of a Brady Gronk reunion, and what you have here is a settled 13-3 team taking home field against a 7-9 team looking to bed in a new Quarterback into an unfamiliar system. The spread of 3.5 looks all wrong (widely available at 10/11) and the Saints are taken to cover this.
