Monday morning overreactions

GEORGE SOMERVILLE – THE TOUCHDOWN SEC CORRESPONDENT

The Monday after week one

Its Monday and it just wouldn’t be college football or the SEC for that matter without mind losing complete over-reactions to the results from the weekend. So as with work places, TV and Radio call in shows and social media up and down the country lets take a look at those Monday morning over- reactions. And this week, they are all bad!

LSU beaten out by USC

LSU Monday

While every fanbase in the SEC is prone to over reacting, those in Baton Rouge are probably kings of the hill when it comes to giving it yeeha on a Monday.

The Tigers lost to the USC Trojans with a last second touchdown in the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas late on Sunday night. This is now the fifth straight opening day loss that LSU has suffered and the fans aren’t happy!

“Give me Nichols State or Grambling state week 1 next year tired of this fucking shit” – Barstool LSU probably summed up the sentiment from Tigers fans.

Although head coach, Brian Kelly wasn’t spared anything either from the fans.

“Brian Kelly’s new accent when he’s named new manager at Rutgers in about two seasons” attached to a meme on X from the OG fantasy Football.

May from Louisiana called into SEC This Morning,  “who schedules these games in week one”…..

One things is for certain Kelly is under the microscope now. Next up is Nicholls State. One assumes Tigers fans will be in better mood next Monday…..

Napier thrown to the gators

Napier Monday

If Brian Kelly thought he got it bad he needs to spare a thought for Florida’s Billy Napier. Florida’s inept performance in their 41-17 drubbing by in state rivals Miami on Saturday had Gators fans apopleptic.

Napier was already a coach under pressure with much to prove to the Gators fans this season. A season in which the Gators have statistically the toughest schedule in all of college football. But it was the manner in which the Gators capitulated that has Florida fans fuming and frothing at the mouth.

“Billy Napier is quite literally the worst thing to ever happen to this program” Blue-Orange Gator posted on X.

“Reminder: Florida fired a coach who won 30 games in his first three seasons to hire Billy Napier” wrote Brandon Walker on X.

And if things couldn’t get worse for Napier he couldn’t open the cap on his bottle of water during his post match press conference.

“Poor Billy Napier can’t even beat a water bottle” posted Big Cat.

Ouch, ouch, ouch for Billy. The coach on the hottest seat just got scorched.

old dominion make life tough for beamer

Beamer Monday

I think it’s fair to say that South Carolina head coach, Shane Beamer divides opinion – not unlike many if not all head coaches in the SEC. However it doesn’t feel like Beamer, now in this fourth season in Columbia, has yet to win over all Gamecocks fans.

As with all teams, fans optimism for the new season in Columbia is high. However unlikeLSU or Florida, South Carolina actually won its first game of the season v Old Dominion. However it was the manner in which the Gamecocks scrambled a winner in a poor performance at a point when they were losing the game to their Sun Belt opponents which caused the angst. And in those first three quarters of the new season, Gamecocks fans saw nothing new and were quick to jump on their head coach.

“I’m officially announcing, fire Shane Beamer – 4 years of his recruiting and his development. This isn’t good enough. 3-9 is on the table” posted Austin Blackwell on X.

“This was an awful performance. Unacceptable – Shane Beamer, I agree” from Lady Gamecock.

“Happy to start this. Fire his ass” posted Miguel.

I could go on but you get the jist. Despite being 1-0 this season Beamer is on the hot seat!

SEC fans are a fickle lot and a hard bunch to please but firing a winning coach one game in seems a little harsh. However make no bones about it, Shane Beamer is another coach under the microscope. Next up is Kentucky in Lexington. The Gamecocks will be underdogs going into this game but it is the performance which fans will be focused on.
