College Football Week 3: 2025 NFL Draft prospects to watch

By Jack Brentnall

This weekend’s college football action features several intriguing matchups involving noteworthy NFL Draft prospects. Here are five players to keep an eye on

Jalen Milroe - QB, Alabama (6-2, 225, rs-Junior)

In a wide-open quarterback class, many names have been mentioned as potential QB1 candidates. One of those is Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. Now in his second season as the Crimson Tide’s starter, Milroe led the SEC with a 9.1% big-time throw rate in 2023.

Milroe ticks all the boxes when it comes to traits – he possesses impressive athleticism, size, and arm strength. When it all comes together the flashes are tantalising. However, the question remains whether he can prove he is more than just an athlete playing quarterback.

Throughout his time as a starter, Milroe has struggled with accuracy, anticipation, and avoiding sacks. He has logged an astronomical 31.1% pressure-to-sack rate, a mark that would be the worst of any quarterback prospect in the last five years.

After a disappointing outing in Week 2 against USF that saw him complete just 59.3% of his passes for 194 yards, he will be eager to bounce back against Wisconsin this weekend and show NFL scouts that he has what it takes to be a legitimate NFL prospect.

Hunter Wohler - S, Wisconsin (6-2, 218, Senior)

On the other side of that matchup is Wisconsin safety Hunter Wohler. The senior is in his second season as a starter and has established himself as a key piece in the Badgers’ secondary.

In 2023, Wohler led all Big Ten defensive backs with 37 defensive stops, while also recording two interceptions and three pass breakups. He was named a First Team All-Big Ten member as a result.

While Wohler may not possess overwhelming physical traits, his size, versatility, and ability to impact both the run and pass make him an intriguing NFL prospect. This weekend’s matchup against Alabama will be a true test of his skills. The Crimson Tide’s offense may not be firing on all cylinders, but they still pose a significant challenge. It will be interesting to see how Wohler fares.

Luther Burden - WR, Missouri (5-11, 205, Junior)

In what appears to be another talented wide receiver class, Burden is a name generating significant hype. A consensus first-round pick and a popular early choice for WR1, Burden has been consistently productive since arriving at Missouri.

Burden is a former five-star prospect and it shows in his movement skills. He is a noticeably explosive athlete and has terrific change of direction quickness. When paired with his tough playstyle and dense build it makes him a challenging receiver to stop.

After missing much of Missouri’s Week 2 win over Buffalo due to illness, Burden is expected to return for this weekend’s matchup against Boston College. The Eagles have a good defense, and Burden will need to be at his best to help Missouri secure a victory.

Marcus Mbow - OT, Purdue (6-5, 300, rs-Junior)

Mbow may not be as well-known as some of the other names on this list, but he is a rising prospect worth watching. He is in his third season as a starter for the Boilermakers, having featured at both right guard and right tackle.

He was on course for a breakout campaign last season, before sustaining a broken leg after just six games. Mbow returned to the starting lineup and looked impressive against Indiana State in Week 1, allowing no pressures and generating plenty of movement in the running game.

Mbow is an athletic and tenacious player with the toughness NFL teams desire in their offensive linemen. This weekend, he faces a tough test against Notre Dame’s talented defense. After a dominant performance against an FCS opponent in Week 1, it will be interesting to see how he fares against a Power Five opponent.

Tacario Davis - CB, Arizona (6-4, 190, Junior)

For the first time in what feels like forever, Arizona finds itself home to several notable NFL Draft prospects. Chief amongst these is wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, but this weekend I’ll be keeping my eyes on their defense and their cornerback Tacario Davis in particular.

Davis is a long and physical cornerback who excels in press coverage. He was one of the best cornerbacks in the country in 2023, forcing 13 incompletions on 54 targets and earning Second Team All-Pac-12 honours in the process.

Whilst he might not be vying for CB1 status in this class, he has the potential to be a top 50 selection with another good season. This weekend he will have his work cut out against a strong Kansas State team. Arizona will need the likes of Davis to be at their best in order to pull off an upset.
