Film Watched: Missouri 2021, South Carolina 2021, Georgia 2021

Pro's:

  • Powerful safety. Benched 23 reps at the combine, and brings linebacker strength to the safety position
  • Has a huge hit in his locker
  • Productive. 241 tackles in 43 games for Kentucky – led the team twice in the last three years
  • Quick processor, and alert to trigger and come downfield to fit the run quickly
  • Excellent field vision, and is acutely aware of potential threats
  • Heightened instincts give him a head start in coverage, and gives him better range than expected
  • Improved ball skills as a senior, more than doubling his career pass breakups
  • Projects to be a valued special teams contributor with his intelligence and mindset

Con's:

  • Hazardous tackler. Enters contact off balance and has let too many slip through his arms
  • Lack of length limits his effectiveness at the catch point
  • Does well to stay off blocks in run support, but can get stuck if opponents latch on
  • Masks a limited athletic profile with football IQ, but quicks can be exposed in pass coverage
  • A little stiff-hipped, and opponent can leverage some separation through his transitions

The Verdict:

“Yusuf Corker has a lot of football under his belt from his time in Kentucky, and it stands out on tape. Not many safeties in this class possess the instincts and awareness that Corker shows on the field - extremely quick to diagnose the run and come down to support the front seven, Corker also demonstrates a good knowledge of route combos and receiver intentions in pass coverage that help him get to where he needs to be. Corker has some obvious deficiencies - he’s a leggy mover in space and has a lack of length that has impeded his ball playing skills. I wouldn’t advocate a role where he has a lot of ground to cover against the pass, but his game has developed to such an extent I would be comfortable using him as a split safety with half-field responsibilities. Let him shine on special teams and continue to improve his game as a depth safety, and Corker has enough versatility to work his way into more reps on defense.”
