2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Tyler Badie

Film Watched: Kentucky 2021, Georgia 2021, Florida 2020

Pro's:

  • Stout, bowling ball running back with dense frame that absorbs contact well
  • Low centre of gravity and pad level, giving him good leg drive through tackles
  • Upper body almost as powerful as his lower half; can breaks tackles lacking conviction
  • Has rockets in his cleats, with unnatural acceleration in open spaces for his stocky body type
  • Has a big play in him; will routinely break off huge runs at key junctures in games
  • Decisive, dramatic cuts that surprise would-be tacklers
  • Multi-faceted offensive weapon in the Mizzou offense – ball carrier, receiver, gadget plays
  • Bonus value as a kickoff returner
  • Impressive ball security; just two fumbles in 639 touches as a Tiger

Con's:

  • Considered undersized at 5’9” – stout frame has served him well, but NFL is another level
  • Limited vision behind the LOS, hidden well by utilising him in a zone running scheme
  • Inattentive to blocking duties; subpar effort with poor technique, can only delay blitzers
  • Heavy body of work in his collegiate career, despite being a backup before his senior season
  • Reacts well in open space, but a little slow to process in the backfield – too many negative plays

The Verdict:

“Offenses utilising an outside zone blocking scheme will do a lot worse than cast a glance towards Tyler Badie. At his best when he’s allowed to flow behind the offensive line, plant his foot and burst through a hole, the former Mizzou ball carrier has the speed to eat up open space in the blink of an eye. The Tigers took full advantage of Badie’s acceleration, lining him up across the formation as they sought to get him the ball as much as they could. Far from a third down pass catching back, Badie proved last year he can be that workhorse ball carrier, although his size and limited vision will make him much less effective in a power run scheme at the next level. Where he lands and how he is utilised will be the difference between Badie being a three-down threat or a change of pace, complementary piece.”
