2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

D'Vonte Price

Film Watched: Florida Atlantic 2020, Liberty 2020

Pro's:

  • Big back with track speed, the perfect combination for an NFL ball carrier
  • Has rocket boosters strapped to his cleats, pulling away into the open field effortlessly
  • Big play threat – get him in space with the ball in his hands and watch him go
  • Bides his time behind the line of scrimmage, allowing blocks to develop before attacking
  • Surprising YAC ability thanks to superior field vision that gives him options after contact
  • Enough lateral quickness to beat defenders to the corner
  • Diagnoses running lanes effectively, and decisive when the opportunity arises
  • Low body of work at college and no injury concerns give confidence of longevity in the NFL
  • Has experience as a gunner on special teams

Con's:

  • Short-area agility betrays his top speed – lack of ‘wiggle’ in tight areas
  • Looks uncomfortable working through traffic – wants clean lanes and clear field
  • Taller back, and keeping his pad height down is an issue
  • Yards after contact might evaporate at the next level as defenders contain him better
  • Trapped behind the line too often when ‘Plan A’ doesn’t materialise
  • Minimal experience as a pass catcher – strictly used as a bail out option out of the backfield

The Verdict:

“D’Vonte Price comes to the NFL demonstrating ideal size and elite speed, meaning he’ll get a lot of attention throughout the NFL Draft process. Plying his trade at FIU means he’s gone under the radar a little, but he had SEC offers and has shown throughout his collegiate career that he has the big play threat in his locker that teams at the next level crave. Far from the polished product, Price offers little as a receiver and isn’t as elusive in and around the action as you’d like, but boy can he move when he has open turf in front of him. He’ll likely start out as a change of pace back with the ability to be an asset as a pass-blocker whilst he refines the rest of his game to become a more complete ball carrier.”
