Film Watched: San Diego State 2020, Fresno State 2020, Wyoming 2019

Pro's:

  • Three year starter with big numbers at the helm of an explosive Air-Raid offense
  • Prototypical size for an NFL quarterback
  • Absolute cannon for an arm. Able to make any throw, even off his back foot
  • Very accurate, with exceptional deep field ball placement
  • Anticipatory quarterback who is able to lead his receiver and maximise YAC
  • Able to diagnose defensive schemes confidently and attack it’s shortcomings
  • Shows good ability to manipulate DB’s and spy linebackers with his eyes

Con's:

  • Little in the way of mobility – a pocket passer who isn’t going to threaten a defense with his legs
  • Underdeveloped pocket presence – gets feet stuck when he can’t climb the pocket comfortably
  • Footwork needs to develop, particularly subtle quick steps within the pocket
  • Unable to bail and unwilling to throw the ball away results in too many sacks
  • A penchant for forcing the ball to whatever read he is on when the pocket collapses
  • Benefitted from explosive talent around him that racked up stats

The Verdict:

“Despite only receiving one scholarship offer as a three star recruit, Carson Strong wound up in the perfect situation to maximise his impressive skillset. In Jay Norvell’s aggressive offense, Strong showcased his live arm, pinpoint accuracy and ability to manipulate secondaries to devastating effect. 2021 didn’t quite pan out for the Wolfpack but their QB’s numbers exploded, and while Strong has plenty of areas of his game to clean up he’ll have vertically-minded OC’s drooling. With little mobility an NFL team would be best served replicating a similar offense for him to operate in at the next level. Do that, and you’ve got yourself a highly effective quarterback with starter potential.”
